The Rio Cosumnes Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR or DAR), was organized on August 5, 2020, with 27 members. The chapter was named for the Cosumnes River, the most striking element connecting many townships in the south Sacramento County. The river is named from the Miwok Indians and is believed to be their word for salmon, “kossum.”  The suffix "sumne" means tribe or people. The Miwok people came to the Cosumnes area in search of acorns from the seven varieties of oaks trees abundant along the river.

We are a vibrant group of professional women, homemakers, volunteers, and retirees from many walks of life who volunteer as a team on many committee projects to advance the mission of the National Society; to promote education, historic preservation, and patriotism in a spirit of friendship.

Rio Cosumnes Chapter, NSDAR, Daughters are eager to make a difference in Elk Grove, Wilton, Galt and the greater south Sacramento area. We support veterans and the active military, donate to women's shelters, provide trees for reforestation in fire-damaged areas, and promote education through student essay contests, Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC) awards, and distribute U.S. Constitution pocket booklets at local libraries.

The chapter meets on the first Monday of the month January through May and September through December.  We welcome ladies, from the age of 18 and beyond, who can trace their ancestry to an American Revolutionary War Patriot or to a direct ancestor who aided in achieving American independence. We would be delighted to assist you in your search for your Patriot ancestor and invite you to explore membership in this active, friendly, and growing chapter.
